From October 2021 to January 2022, Carsel was located in Dnipro, Ukraine, on a Fulbright Creative Writing grant. While there, they worked on a series of lyric essays and textile artworks that meditated on how communities carve themselves and their stories into the landscapes that surrounds them, and how those landscapes might carry the stories forward even when the communities who carved them are gone, thinking specifically about pre-Holocaust history of the region. At the end of January 2022, they were relocated to Poland.
