Untitled Babushkas

“Untitled Babushkas” is an ongoing series of woven and embroidered babushkas that reimagines the dress code of the Jewish priests of ancient Israel for grannies in the former Soviet Republics.

The imagery of Untitled Babushka 1 is based on the pomegranate and its flowers. Untitled Babushka 2 is woven predominantly using the “Danish medallion” tapestry weave, and is additionally inspired by an amuletic Turkish shawl from the early 20th century.
